Police commissioner role vital - candidate Alun Michael

Cardiff South and Penarth Labour MP Alun Michael, a candidate to be the police and crime commissioner for South Wales Police, explains why he believes the job is important.

Mr Michael discussed the role with presenter Vaughan Roderick on BBC Radio Wales' Sunday Supplement, and John Curtice, a professor of politics at the University of Strathclyde.

Labour will unveil its full list of candidates for the four Welsh forces on Monday.

Commissioners will determine policing priorities, set budgets and have the power to hire and fire chief constables.
