Torrential rain and melting snow led to the emergency services being called nearly 300 times in west Wales

A warning has been issued of the possibility of more localised flooding in Wales, after several areas in the west were inundated.

Heavy rain is forecast overnight, with persistent downpours expected to reach most of Wales into Sunday.

The Environment Agency urges people to be vigilant and warns that driving conditions could be dangerous, with any remaining snow likely to thaw rapidly.

Heavy rain and melting snow caused flooding on Friday in west Wales.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service dealt with more than 300 calls on Friday evening.

There were floods in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Swansea, with smaller incidents in south east Wales.

Among the areas badly hit by flooding was Solva in Pembrokeshire, where the fire service said about 60 properties were either flooded or threatened by a burst river.

Firefighters said the flooding was caused by a mixture of heavy rain and rising temperatures thawing snow and ice, and have warned people to listen to forecasts.

The Environment Agency said further rain on Saturday into Sunday was likely to be worse in south and mid Wales.

Rain and thawing snow could cause localised flooding and surface water on roads and fields, it said.

It added that rivers and streams could rise and flood warnings and alerts may be issued.

Rain is expected to clear during the early hours of Sunday, but further heavy showers are expected to follow later in the day and through to Monday, with unsettled weather likely to continue into next week.
