A new organiser has been appointed for the National Eisteddfod.

Elen Huws Elis, originally from Holywell, has worked as chorus manager for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for eight years.

She also has experience as a professional singer, manager and agent.

Eisteddfod chief executive Elfed Roberts said the appointment was "the beginning of a new chapter for the organisation".

He added: "Elen brings new skills and expertise to the team, and I look forward to working with her when she starts at the end of the summer."

Mr Roberts paid tribute to the current organiser, Hywel Wyn Edwards, who is retiring shortly.

"Hywel has been with the eisteddfod for twenty years and we thank him for his commitment and his contribution over the years."

Ms Elis will take up her post on 1 September, working from the Eisteddfod's Mold office, following this year's National Eisteddfod in Denbigh in August.
