Margaret Thatcher funeral: Welsh Guards brothers to carry coffin

Two brothers and Welsh Guards who fought in the Falklands conflict together, will be among the pall bearers at Baroness Thatcher's funeral.

Garrison Sergeant Major Bill Mott and Major Nicky Mott will join men from the three services carrying the coffin.

The Motts survived the Argentine attack on the Sir Galahad in which 48 men - 32 Welsh Guards - died.

They are understood to be the last Falkland veterans serving in the regiment.

A total 700 armed fences personnel are taking part in the funeral for Lady Thatcher, who died last Monday aged 87.

Outside St Paul's Cathedral there will be a guard of honour for the arrival of the coffin made up of members of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and the Welsh Guards Band.

Among the Welsh dignitaries attending the funeral will be First Minister Carwyn Jones and Welsh singers Dame Shirley Bassey and Katherine Jenkins.

They will join politicians, international figures and dignitaries who are among 2,000 invited mourners, but Neil Kinnock, who was Labour leader for much of Lady Thatcher's premiership in the 1980s, will not be attending.

Lord Kinnock will be attending the funeral of a former Labour councillor in his old Islwyn constituency instead.
