Proud Newport County fans gathered at the team's Rodney Parade ground to cheer on the players as they took part in an open-top bus victory parade. The team have secured a place in League Two after winning the Conference play-off final.

About 500 fans greeted the bus at the football ground before it set off through the city to the Civic Centre where the players attended a reception.

Thousands of people lined the bus route. Many were dressed in the club's black and amber colours and were waving flags.

Some fans, like Stephen Dunn - pictured with wife Denise and daughter Abigail, 10 - were lifelong supporters who were delighted to see their team move to League Two after beating Wrexham 2-0 at Wembley on Sunday.

Sgt Scott Askew (left) and Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Nev Davies were among police outriders who accompanied the bus on bicycles to the civic centre and back. Sgt Askew, who has Rodney Parade on his beat, said it was "fantastic to hear all the chanting".

Players on the bus captured the jubilant scenes on their mobile phones.

While fans clamoured to any available spot along the route to see their heroes

The bus and players returned to Rodney Parade after the civic reception. Mayor John Guy went to the club to present a framed scroll from the council.
