Hopes have been raised that new owners will take over the Remploy factory in Port Talbot which was put up for sale.

GMB union said it hopes to hold "constructive" talks with Metalliform which is looking to take over the site, along with two others in England.

Earlier this year, UK government asked for "expressions of interest" from firms willing to take on the plants which employ people with disabilities.

Factories opened 66 years ago as part of the creation of the welfare state.

GMB national officer Jerry Nelson said: "GMB will be meeting with Metalliform next week in the first stage of consultations on the possible transfer of Remploy's furniture factories.

"Our major concern is to protect as many jobs as possible and maintain the current terms and conditions of our members."
