A second nurse has been arrested by police investigating allegations that patient notes have been faked "resulting in neglect" at Bridgend's Princess of Wales Hospital.

The 31-year-old woman was suspended from duties as soon as the issues were suspected, said South Wales Police.

In June, a nurse was released on police bail amid allegations of neglect over a period from January last year to January 2013 at the hospital.

Officers are contacting patients.

South Wales Police said it had been alerted by Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board to allegations of falsification of entries in patients' notes at the hospital.

The second woman has also been released on police bail while investigations continue.

A force spokesman said: "At this time an independent medical expert will review the findings of the health board to establish if any patients suffered harm as a result of the allegations under investigation.

"The nurse was suspended from duties as soon as these issues were suspected.

"Police officers are contacting all of the patients or the families of those patients concerned."

Police have said previously that the issues being investigation had come to light by the health board's safety systems.
