Cardiff and Swansea fans praised at first Premier derby

Police have praised the behaviour of Cardiff City and Swansea City fans after the teams' first Premier League derby.

Steven Caulker headed the winner in the 1-0 victory over Swansea City in front of 27,000 at the Cardiff City stadium.

South Wales Police say there were no arrests before, during or after the game.

Swansea fans arrived in free buses laid on by the club, when they were handed their match tickets.

Match commander Supt Tony Smith said supporters' behaviour sent a "positive impression to the millions of people" who watched the match on television around the world.

"The good behaviour of the fans, the stewarding at Cardiff City Football Club and effective policing all combined to create an enjoyable evening for everyone," he said.

The game was the 106th derby between the teams. At their last encounter three years ago, when both teams were in the Championship, Swansea City won 1-0 in Cardiff.

Sunday's game came 101 years after the teams first met. The first derby, in 1912, ended in a 1-1 draw.
