The Met Office rain warning for south and west Wales is in place until 16:00 GMT on Sunday

Heavy rain and strong winds have been sweeping across parts of Wales, with up to 25mm (1in) of rain expected in places.

The Met Office had issued a yellow warning for rain, meaning people should be prepared for severe weather, and said flooding was possible.

The coastguard reported force 11 winds (64-73mph) in Holyhead harbour during the morning.

Several flood alerts were in place in Wales, external on Sunday afternoon.

The rain was expected to fall through the morning before clearing from the west on Sunday afternoon.

The Met Office said flooding was possible, either from surface water caused by the rain or by exacerbating existing problems caused by recent bad weather.

The Met Office rain warning for south and west Wales is in place until 16:00 GMT on Sunday.

Some snow is also expected on higher ground, with a cold snap forecast for the week ahead.
