Ice and snow close Old Horseshoe Pass ahead of gales warning

Ice and snowy conditions have caused problems for drivers in parts of north Wales.

The Old Horseshoe Pass, Llangollen, Denbighshire, has been closed because of ice.

Snow and hail have been reported in some upland areas and council gritters have taken to the roads.

The Met Office has stood down a yellow "be aware" warning, external for snow and ice but issued one for gale-force winds for north west counties on Tuesday evening.

On Monday, there were delays on the A55 near Northop and Caerwys as North Wales Police dealt with two minor crashes, reportedly caused by snow turning to slush.

Denbighshire council said the Old Horseshoe Pass is a back road that runs parallel to the main Horseshoe Pass, A542.
