Wales weather: Snow falls amid 'yellow' warning

Snow has fallen in many parts of Wales, as forecasters issue a yellow "be aware" warning.

The Met Office said up to 15cm could fall, external on Friday evening and overnight.

There has been a spate of crashes, including two on the M4 near Bridgend and one on the A470 near Pontypridd.

Gritters are also treating roads around the country as temperatures are expected to dip below freezing in some rural parts. Drivers have been advised to take care.

Parts of Wrexham and Flintshire have seen snowfall and road incidents included:

  • The A470 was reported to be impassable for a time near Dolgellau, Gwynedd

  • Three people were treated by paramedics after a car skidded off the M4 westbound between Pyle and Margam at 15:18 GMT. Two lanes were closed eastbound causing very slow traffic

  • Fire crews also responded to a crash involving four cars on the M4 westbound between Pencoed and Sarn at 14:49 GMT

  • A car overturned on the Rhigos mountain at around the same time, Fire crews from Treorchy and Hirwaun made the vehicle safe

  • Another car collided with the central reservation on the A470 northbound near Pontypridd at 14:06 GMT, with one person being treated by ambulance crews

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service says no-one was seriously hurt in any of the incidents.

Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Anglesey, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Torfaen, Wrexham are all expected to be affected.

Meanwhile, heavy rain was causing difficult driving conditions on the M4 in both directions in Carmarthenshire.
