Caerphilly Observer editor on being a new kid on the block

Average newspaper circulations in Wales have continued to fall, according to latest industry figures.

However, publishers have seen significant increases in the numbers of people using their online news sites.

Figures compiled for ABC show the Western Mail's circulation has dropped below 20,000 for December and January.

While the image is of an industry in decline, one new newspaper has emerged in the last two year, born out of the internet.

Richard Gurner set up the Caerphilly Observer, external in 2009 as a hyper local website while he was working away but he returned to south Wales to set up a fortnightly free newspaper version in May 2013.

He told BBC Wales art and media correspondent Huw Thomas he had been frustrated by the lack of local news.
