Five competing developers have submitted draft proposals for regenerating Swansea city centre.

St David's shopping area and the Civic Centre site have been earmarked for new retail, leisure and office facilities.

Bidders have also been asked to propose innovative ways of linking the two sites, which are separated by a main road.

Details of the five plans will remain confidential until a contractor is chosen later this year.

Council leader Rob Stewart said: "Some of the retailers and well-known brands that could potentially be moving to Swansea city centre under the proposals being put forward aren't anywhere outside London at the moment.

"This is particularly encouraging because it could strengthen Swansea's reputation for uniqueness and help our city centre stand out from the crowd."
