'Like the world ended': Mother on deaf son's diagnosis

A woman whose son was diagnosed as deaf at 10 days of age has said the experience "felt like the world had ended".

Children's Commissioner for Wales Sally Holland has said families need more help, and highlighted the cost of sign language classes as being unaffordable for many.

Kimberley Hooper's son Oliver, three, wears cochlear implants, but is unable to hear without them.

She learned British Sign Language after his diagnosis but said the £350 cost meant they could not afford for her husband or daughter to take the classes.
