Eastbound M4 traffic came to a standstill on Tuesday

A section of the M4 has now reopened following a serious two-car crash near Newport.

The eastbound carriageway was shut for more than five hours between junction 24 at the Coldra and junction 23 for the M48.

Two westbound lanes were also closed for a time.

The closures led to queues for around 16 miles (26km), reaching back to junction 29. Traffic has now cleared.

Police first received calls to the scene at 14:09 BST.

The Wales Air Ambulance and two fire and rescue crews also attended.
