Man found dead at Flint Castle was 'no risk' to himself

A man who was found hanged at Flint Castle "did not pose a risk to himself", an inquest has heard.

PC David Hall found Joshua Hamill, 24, drinking in a pub near Flint railway station after a row with his girlfriend, who had called the police.

Mr Hamill was found dead the next day, 5 June 2016.

PC Hall had been told by Emily Johnstone, Mr Hamill's girlfriend, that he had been violent towards her and he thought she was in more danger.

The officer said that Mr Hamill was "calm" and told the police his girlfriend was trying to "get him into trouble".

The court heard that Mr Hamill, from Northampton, suffered from conditions including ADHD, anxiety and depression and had made several attempts on his life in the previous four years and had made threats to kill himself that night.

Miss Johnstone had called the police and asked them to take him away for his own safety, but PC Hall said it "did not seem appropriate".

"He seemed calm, he seemed annoyed that we were still there," he told the inquest at Ruthin.

"I made an assessment on presentation.

"I felt she was at risk from domestic abuse. I wanted Emily to be safe".

Jurors heard that Mr Hamill had been visiting Miss Johnstone's bedsit in the town centre earlier in the evening but left after a row with a family friend. She was pregnant with the couple's child at the time.

The inquest continues.
