Tributes paid after three die in Denbighshire crash

The family of Colin Hornsby, 17, from Droylsden, Greater Manchester, say their lives will "never be the same" again

A family has paid tribute to one of the victims of a crash in which three men died in Denbighshire.

A Vauxhall Corsa and a Vauxhall Antara collided along the Graig Road, near Denbigh, just before 19:30 BST Friday.

John Michael Jones, 18, and Leon Rice, 17, both from Ruthin, and Colin Hornsby, 17, from Droylsden, Greater Manchester, all died at the scene.

Three other people are also in hospital with serious injuries while a fourth suffered minor injuries.

North Wales Police said the grieving families are "being supported by specially trained officers".

All three men who died were travelling in the Vauxhall Corsa, along with two more males aged 16 and 19, who were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, with serious injuries.

The 16-year-old passenger has since been transferred to hospital in Aintree, Liverpool.

The 66-year-old male driver of the Vauxhall Antara suffered minor injuries while the 68-year-old female passenger has sustained serious injuries. Both remain at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

Mr Hornsby's family said they were totally heartbroken by the teenager's death.

In a statement they said: "Colin was loved by all his family and friends. He loved life, music and his designer clothes.

"He will be missed by all his family and friends and our lives will never be the same again without him."

Denbigh mayor Catherine Jones said the community is "devastated and grieving" following Friday's crash, which happened between Denbigh and Trefnant.

"Everyone in Denbigh is totally shocked and devastated," said Ms Jones.

"The loss of three young men with their lives ahead of them is absolutely tragic. Our thoughts are with their families who must be going through unimaginable grief.

"The whole community is grieving and we all pull together to everything we can to help and support the families."

Friday evening's crash happened near the Nant-y-Crabbas Boarding Cattery

Police shut the road between Denbigh and Trefnant for almost eight hours as they investigated the cause.

Officers are appealing for witnesses, people who may have seen the vehicles leading up to the crash or those with dashcam footage to come forward.

Sergeant Leigh Evans of the Roads Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts remain with the three families during this incredibly difficult time.

"All are being supported by specially-trained Family Liaison Officers."
