Footage showing the last movements of a child killer before he was allegedly murdered by his neighbour has been released by Gwent Police.

David Gaut, 54, was stabbed more than 150 times while still alive and a further 26 times after he died.

Three men are on trial charged over his death on 2 August.

Gaut served 32 years in prison for murdering 15-month-old Chi Ming Shek in 1985. Prosecutors allege his neighbour killed him after learning of his crime.

David Osborne, 51, of New Tredegar, and co-accused Ieuan Harley, 23, of no fixed abode, are accused of murdering Gaut just hours after learning of the nature of his conviction.

They both deny the charge, while Mr Harley and Darran Evesham, 47, from New Tredegar, deny perverting the course of justice, which Osborne has previously admitted.

Earlier in the trial, Mr Evesham was acquitted of Gaut's murder on the direction of the judge.

Footage showed Gaut buying a train ticket from Caerphilly station at about 11:40 BST on the day he died wearing a dark jacket, white shirt and blue jeans.

Later in the day, it is alleged the body was dragged back to Gaut's flat in Long Row, New Tredegar, and attempts were made to clean up the murder scene, dispose of bloodied clothing and set fire to a car to destroy incriminating evidence.

CCTV footage also shows the movements of the accused men on the day of the alleged murder.

Mr Harley was shown in Morrisons supermarket, Bargoed, at about 17:00, Mr Osborne was at Rhymney train station at 12:30 and Mr Harley and Mr Evesham can be seen in a pharmacy at 12:00.

The trial continues.
