North Wales fire crews tackle large hillside fire

Fire crews have been tackling a large hillside fire near Caernarfon, Gwynedd.

Four fire engines and other teams were called to the site at Rhosgadfan at 03:15 BST on Saturday.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they had to deal with three separate seats of the fire on gorse and heather.

The area was made famous as the setting for stories by the Welsh language author Kate Roberts. The fires were extinguished just after 07:00.

Four engines, two off-road vehicles and fire control managers from from Bangor, Llanberis and Caernarfon were sent to the Lon Wen site.

The road between Rhosgadfan and Waunfawr was closed to traffic during the operation.
