A man who died after being attacked at a Cardiff railway station has been named as 18-year-old Fahad Mohamed Nur.

Police found Mr Nur in a lane behind Cathays railway station in the early hours of Sunday following reports of a stabbing. He later died in hospital.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, who were arrested in connection with his death, have been released with no further action, South Wales Police said.

Det Ch Insp Mark O'Shea said officers were "doing doing all we can".

Officers were called to a lane adjacent to the railway line - which links Park Place to Corbett Road - at about 00:25 BST on Sunday, following reports a man had been stabbed.

Mr Nur, from Cardiff, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he died from his injuries.

His family is being supported by specially-trained officers.

"A young man has tragically lost his life and we are doing all we can to identify and arrest those responsible for the murder of Fahad Mohamed Nur," said Det Ch Insp O'Shea.

"Cathays is a very busy area and we know there were number of people near the student's union in Park Place and on Corbett Road close to the Woodville pub who may have heard or seen something."

A police cordon remains in place and trains are not stopping at Cathays until further notice.

Passengers with tickets for Cathays may use Cardiff Queen Street or Llandaff station while National Express are not able to stop at Cardiff University.

Police said road and railway station closures were also linked to a separate incident at a nearby mosque.
