A railway line was closed because a bag of bolts was left by the track, not boulders caused by a landslip, it has emerged.

Trains were suspended between North Llanrwst and Blaenau Ffestiniog in Gwynedd on Wednesday night to clear debris and make repairs to a tunnel.

Services resumed on Thursday and National Rail has admitted engineers could not find evidence of a rock fall.

A spokesman said the bag "could have been mistaken as fallen rocks".
