Coronavirus: Tributes paid to Becca Evans after virus death

A woman with a "heart of gold" who had "lost everything" in the floods has died after contracting coronavirus.

Becca Evans and her mother Leigh were forced to leave their Rhondda Cynon Taf home during Storm Dennis in February.

Ms Evans, 28, died on 9 April at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, after testing positive for Covid-19.

Her family believe she contracted the virus after she was admitted to hospital in March. Cwm Taf University Health Board has been asked to comment.

Ms Evans' friend Jacqui Onions said the family had "lost everything" after their home, in Pentre, was destroyed by floods after a month's worth of rain fell in just 48 hours.

She said they had just moved into a new house, and were starting to get their lives back together when Ms Evans was admitted to hospital with an infection about five weeks ago.

Ms Onions said Ms Evans had been so grateful for all the support from the community after the flooding.

Her family described her as "beautiful inside and out" and "a selfless young lady with a heart of gold".

Ms Evans was a keen dancer and loved acting

She was keenly involved with dance from a young age, as well as the Girl Guiding movement and the Rhondda Polar Bears disabled swimming club.

"Everyone she met, she touched their lives in some way and everyone loved her," said Ms Onions.

"She was so widely loved by so many people. I've had so many messages from people saying they'll remember her smile and her willingness to help anybody.

"Becca was just completely unique, she had an absolute heart of gold, she was always doing something, always active and always smiling".
