The wife and daughters of a cyclist killed in a crash with a car have described him as "irreplaceable".
Donald Mitchell, 61, from St Brides Major, died on the A48 on Thursday after being struck by a blue Volvo S40.
The crash happened at 17:15 GMT near Laleston, at a junction with Well Street, Bridgend.
A 66 year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
In a tribute, Mr Mitchell's wife of 34 years Sian and his three daughters, Hannah, Eluned and Siriol, said they "do not grieve without hope".
"He trained in librarianship at university and worked in various roles, before becoming a librarian at UNION School of Theology, Bryntirion, nine years ago," they said in a written statement.
They added he was an avid cyclist and was looking forward to spending time with his family in his retirement next year.
"His sad passing is an irreplaceable loss to his family, who do not grieve without hope," they said.
South Wales Police is continuing to appeal for any witnesses.
