Weather: Snow and ice warnings issued for Wales

The second warning comes into place from Saturday

Blizzard conditions could hit parts of Wales as snow and strong winds are forecast over the weekend.

A yellow warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office from 09:00 GMT to 22:00 on Saturday.

The warning covers parts of mid, south and north Wales.

The Met Office warned winds combined with snow could lead to "temporary blizzard conditions" over Welsh hills on Saturday. It comes after snow and ice was forecast for south-west Wales.

On Saturday the warning covers 11 of Wales' 22 council areas - Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Merthyr Tydfil. Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The Met Office warned rail and road journeys could be disrupted, while there was a danger of slips and falls on icy pavements and roads.

Up to 5cm of fresh snow could fall on hills and mountains on Saturday, potentially leading to drifting conditions on the hills.
