Lorry hits bridge in Machynlleth, closing A487 and railway
- Published
A lorry has hit a railway bridge in Machynlleth, leading to a road closure and train disruption.
The A487 has been closed in both directions while police attend the scene between Ffordd Mynydd Griffiths and the Texaco petrol station.
Traffic Wales said the road would remain closed for some time and asked motorists to plan ahead.
The driver was uninjured, but traffic delays are expected and trains on the line have been cancelled or delayed.
It is thought the lorry's trailer had not been lowered in time before crossing under the railway bridge.
Network Rail engineers are currently on site, assessing possible structural damage to the bridge.
Some rocks and rubble have fallen from the bridge on to the road underneath and hydraulic oil from the vehicle has spilled on the road.
Dyfed-Powys Police officers are on site along with officers from Powys council.
Officers said they hoped that the road would be able to re-open once the oil has been cleared.
