An investigation has been launched after a fire tore through a block of flats overnight.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent six appliances to the fire at Greenway Road, Rumney, Cardiff, after a call at about 23:00 BST on Friday.

The two-storey building suffered "significant damage" with all eight flats affected, the fire service added.

It is not yet known what caused the fire, but South Wales Police and the fire service are investigating.

In the early hours, the fire service tweeted, external: "Due to smoke and a large number of emergency vehicles in the area, local residents are advised to stay indoors and keep windows shut to keep safe."
