A 65-year-old woman has been found dead following a house fire.

Police and workmen tried to rescue the victim from the property in Pentyrch, near Cardiff, on Friday at about noon.

Det Insp Bob Chambers, from South Wales Police, paid tribute to the "bravery of the members of the public who tried their best to gain access to the bungalow and extinguish the fire while emergency services were on their way".

An investigation has been launched by the police and fire service.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the bungalow in Cefn Bychan and found the occupant.

The woman's next of kin have been informed, said police in an update on Saturday.
