An 80-year-old bystander has been injured after an alleged altercation between two other men at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.

It happened in the stands of the stadium during Saturday's Wales v New Zealand match, which the visitors won by 55 points to 23.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is not known.

Two men, aged 20 and 32, have been arrested for assault and remain in custody, South Wales Police has said.

Eye-witness Wales fan Tim Gould, who was sitting nearby, described how the man "flew over the rows".

"Someone in the crowd identified himself as a doctor and came over to check him out," he said.

Spectators had to move so police, stadium stewards and members of St John Ambulance could help the injured man, said Mr Gould, who was at the game with his friend and their two 14-year-old sons.

"He was talking so I'm hoping he's OK," he said.

Witness appeal

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) said it was fully cooperating with the police following an incident at the stadium.

A spokesperson said: "We are extremely sorry to hear that a supporter was injured during the incident, and we encourage anyone who witnessed the incident to contact South Wales Police".

Police have appealed for witnesses.
