Swansea: Man arrested after city centre stabbing

A man has been arrested after reports of a stabbing in the early hours of Tuesday morning

A man has been arrested following a reported stabbing in Swansea city centre.

South Wales Police said it was called at 03:50 BST on Tuesday to reports that a man had been stabbed on Union Street.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault.

Police said the suspect wore a black mask over his face and was riding a bicycle.

After the alleged stabbing, police said a man took to the roof of a building on the Strand, a nearby road. The Strand and the Strand Quarter building were temporarily closed, but have both since reopened.

The force said it was working to understand the full circumstances behind the two incidents.

Insp James Wilson said: "The incident was brought to a safe conclusion around 14:10 this afternoon with the support of police negotiators.

"We would like to thank everyone for their patience whilst emergency services carried out their duties.

The force has appealed for information from anyone who was around Union Street or Oxford Street between 03:20 BST and 03:50 on Tuesday.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said one person was taken to Morriston Hospital for treatment.
