A man has admitted to a number of driving offences, including drink-driving, after being stopped by police.
Shane Loughlin, 32, appeared in court on Monday after he was stopped in Aberporth Road in Llandaff North, Cardiff, on Saturday at 04:20 BST.
He was charged with drink-driving, driving while disqualified and without insurance.
In March, Loughlin was hurt in a crash in St Mellons, which killed three people and injured another.
On Monday, Cardiff Magistrates' Court was told the Ford Focus he was driving on Saturday "lurched forwards and then stalled".
Loughlin, from Rumney, Cardiff, failed a roadside test and then a test at a police station found he had 46 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
Prosecutor Gregory Lloyd told the court it was a "proactive stop" by officers from the Roads Policing Unit.
Loughlin appeared in court for separate charges last Tuesday where he admitted to dangerous driving and driving while disqualified, on the M4 on 3 March 2023.
He was on an interim driving ban at the time of the offences.
Eve Smith, 21, Darcy Ross, 21 and Rafel Jeanne, 24, died in the collision shortly after 02:00 GMT on 4 March.
Sophie Russon, 20, was critically injured and taken to hospital, along with Loughlin.
All five had been on a night out in Newport when the car is believed to have veered off the A48 into trees.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on the 15 September to be sentenced for the charges linked to the St Mellons crash.
He will be sentenced for Saturday's three offences at a later date.
