Ieuan Bartlett denies 12 counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust

A jury has been discharged at the trial of a teacher accused of abusing his position of trust and having sex with a pupil.

Ieuan Bartlett, 28, from Whitchurch, Cardiff denies a total of 12 charges, including two charges of sexual intercourse.

Judge Lucy Crowther told Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday the jury could not proceed.

A trial is scheduled at the court from 25 March 2024.

Judge Lucy Crowther told the court that issues raised meant it was not possible to proceed in the amount of time needed.

She thanked members of the jury for their time and discharged them.

A further mention hearing will take place at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on 12 January 2024.

Judge Crowther imposed conditions on Mr Bartlett's bail including a condition of residency at Maesglas, Whitchurch and an electrically monitored curfew between 22:00 GMT and 07:00.
