A55 death crash believed to have involved stolen taxi

An inquest has opened after a fatal crash on the A55 which is thought to have involved a stolen taxi.

Kian Daniel Collier was alone in the white Hyundai when it hit a wall by the eastbound carriageway near Penmaenmawr, Conwy county, on 28 October.

Mr Collier, 22, of Tan y Lan Road, Old Colwyn, died at the scene.

Bangor-based Premier Group, which owned the vehicle, has confirmed the Hyundai was stolen from them, but said none of its drivers were involved.

At a brief hearing in Ruthin, Denbighshire, Kate Robertson, assistant coroner for North Wales East and Central, said Mr Collier's provisional cause of death had been given as multiple injuries.

Traffic was diverted for several hours while the emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the crash.

"Our investigations into this incident are ongoing, including inquiries concerning the suspected taking of a motor vehicle without consent," North Wales Police said.
