A teacher has been charged with sexual communication with a child.

Alun Jones Williams, 26, from Y Ffôr in Pwllheli, Gwynedd, pleaded not guilty to the charge at Caernarfon Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was bailed.

The county council said he had been suspended from his school post until "all the investigations have been completed".

Mr Jones Williams is also a member of the Welsh folk-rock band Bwncath.

The band said in a statement it learned of the allegations over the weekend and "appropriate steps were taken immediately".

"The member in question will not take part in any of the band's future performances," it added.

North Wales Police said it was aware of messages being shared on social media and urged the public not to speculate about the case.
