Anthony Hopkins on playing 'remarkable' Nicholas Winton

Sir Anthony Hopkins has praised the "remarkable" man he has portrayed in the film One Life.

The Welsh actor plays Sir Nicholas Winton, a young stockbroker who in the months leading up to World War II helped to save nearly 700 children from the Nazis under a scheme called Kindertransport.

Sir Nicholas's heroic actions first came to light 50 years later in the BBC’s That’s Life, and that story has now been turned into a film.

It will be released on 1 January and the double Oscar-winner said it was not he who should be thanked, but Sir Nicholas.

“He was a remarkable man because of his humility, he didn’t want to be exposed or revealed.

“I admired his sense of anonymity.”
