A man has been charged with the murder of a 23-year-old near a cathedral on Christmas Eve.

Armed police were sent to a property near Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff at about 11:30 GMT.

Dylan Thomas, also 23 and from Llandaff, was remanded in custody while a court date is set, South Wales Police said.

Formal identification of the alleged victim's body has not yet taken place, police added.

Det Ch Insp Matt Davies said a "police cordons remain in place in Llandaff, including at the High Street carpark, while enquiries continue".

"Cordons will be lifted at the earliest opportunity. In the meantime, anyone who needs access to their vehicles in the car park, should approach officers on scene guard to be granted access," he added.

"Our thoughts are with the victim's family who continue to be updated and supported by family liaison officers."
