Dog owners have been warned to watch out for palm oil washed up on the coast.

Cyngor Gwynedd said "significant" amounts had been found between Tal-y-Bont and Morfa Dyffryn.

The authority said work was being undertaken to remove the substance as soon as possible.

Palm oil, it added, was often to be found in yellow or white waxy blocks and is released into the sea when ships clean their tanks.

"It doesn't pose a risk to human health, it and can be very harmful to dogs," a council spokesman said.
