Weather warnings for wind and rain issued for Wales

Wales will see its second weather warning for wind in a matter of days this weekend

High winds could batter Wales again this weekend, with gusts of up to 75mph in coastal areas.

A yellow wind warning has been issued by the Met Office from 11:00 GMT on Saturday until 03:00 on Sunday.

Another warning for heavy rain runs from 10:00-18:00 on Saturday, which "may lead to flooding".

Forecasters said travel was likely to be affected and further power cuts were possible.

Wales has already faced high winds this week as Storm Gerrit brought gusts of up to 85mph (137 km/h).

Tens of thousands of homes in Ceredigion had their power knocked out by a lightning strike on Thursday.

The wind warning for this weekend covers Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Gwynedd, Anglesey, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan.

The Met Office said: "An active cold front will move east across England and Wales during Saturday and into Sunday and will be characterised by strong winds and some heavy rain.

"Gusts of 45-50mph widely, but squally near the cold front with some gusts around 60mph, whilst the strongest gusts are likely near coasts in the west and south, with 65-75mph in places."
