Bishopston Comprehensive School pupils have been told they will not be able to return following half-term

A secondary school has been shut and its utilities disconnected amid concerns over ground movement.

More than 1,100 pupils at Bishopston Comprehensive School in Swansea have been told they will not be able to return following the half-term break.

Swansea council said work was ongoing to identify the cause, but it expected the school to "reopen soon".

Bishopston Primary School is unaffected and will reopen as normal after half-term.

Robert Smith, cabinet member for education, said: "This situation is beyond our control but everything possible is being done to get pupils back into class as soon as we can.

"We fully appreciate the temporary closure of the school buildings will cause disruption for pupils and their families but the safety of pupils and staff is our number one priority."

The council is working on options for providing education to pupils while the school remains closed and "arrangements are being made" for pupils entitled to free school meals, Mr Smith added.
