Rayven, 4, was taken to hospital after being seriously injured by a dog on Monday

A four-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a dog attack.

Dyfed Powys Police said officers were called to Cae Grug, Carmarthen, at 18:15 GMT on Monday following reports of a dog attack.

Rayven was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening or life-changing injuries.

Police have seized a dog, which is being held at a secure kennel while they establish its breed.

Rayven's mum, Charis Sebastian, said her daughter was playing in the street when the dog "pounced" on her.

It was about 5-6ft (1.5-1.8m) away from Rayven when it attacked her, Ms Sebastian said, adding the dog knew her daughter "very, very well".

Ms Sebastian said Rayven's injuries were "quite bad" and she had required surgery.

The four-year-old remains in hospital.

Ms Sebastian described the attack as a "freak accident", and said her "heart breaks for the dog's owner".
