Ceredigion June floods: 15 families able to return home

Some of the people forced out of their homes in Ceredigion by the summer's severe flooding have started to return.
Ceredigion council has established that 15 households evacuated in the north of the county in June have moved back.
Some residents were warned they would have to leave their homes for up to six months after a month's worth of rain fell in 24 hours on 8 and 9 June.
But 14 families who approached the council for help are still being forced to live elsewhere.
Aberystwyth and the nearby villages of Talybont, Dol-y-Bont, Capel Bangor, Penrhyncoch and Llandre were among the areas affected by June's deluge, including some caravan parks.
A council spokesman said: "To the best of our knowledge, based on visits made by the department's officers, 15 households have returned to their homes.
"The exact numbers of people this relates to is unknown.
"For those households that approached the housing options team for temporary accommodation, eight are still in accommodation - private lets, housing association temporary and sheltered schemes.
"There are a further six that have found their own alternative accommodation."
He added: "Information has been gathered during officer visits to monitor progress with remediation, and for these households, 38 have remained in their homes, 16 have stayed with family and friends, 10 have found a holiday home/empty property, three are staying in a caravan on site, one is staying in a B&B and one in a chalet in the garden."
Ceredigion council is still counting the cost following the floods.
It spent £300,000 clearing up in the immediate aftermath, fixing roads and bridges.
However, it said in August it expected repair costs would rise to more than £400,000.
About £105,000 has been collected through the council leader's appeal fund and 130 people affected by the floods are receiving payments to help with some of their costs.
Prince Charles made a donation to the fund, and he and the Duchess of Cornwall met some of the flood victims and the emergency services in Aberystwyth on 9 July.
Meanwhile, businesses, especially those in the tourism industry, were offered government support.
