The alarm was raised at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth at 14:39 BST as flames and smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the rear of the building

About 300 staff were immediately evacuated from the building. Reports from the scene suggest a 30m section of the roof has been destroyed.

Five fire crews, including an aerial ladder, were called to the scene

Staff at the library said it was not known how the fire started but everyone managed to leave safely

The library, which opened almost a century ago, has millions of books plus manuscripts, archives, maps, pictures, photographs, films and music
