Brecon Jazz: Double Brit nominee Laura Mvula to play

Double Brit award nominee Laura Mvula is among Brecon Jazz festival's 30th anniversary line-up.

Mvula, 26, is in the running for best female solo artist and best breakthrough British act for her top 10 debut album.

Others at the three-day August event include a trumpeter and Cardiff band who both played at the first festival.

Swing musician Warren Vache appeared in 1984 while Mike Harries is back with his swing band the Root Doctors.

This year's festival runs from 8-10 August,

Singer-songwriter Mvula, from Birmingham, has been a rising star since releasing her album Sing To The Moon in March last year.

The Mercury Prize nominee won Best Female Act and Best R&B or Soul Artist at the 2013 Mobo Awards.

Festival director Orchard described Mvula as "one of the real finds of 2013" who was highly acclaimed for her "haunting vocal performances", including on the Pyramid Stage at last year's Glastonbury.

"It is fitting to see jazz trumpeter Warren Vache on the 2014 bill as he was there from the start, playing the very first Brecon Jazz in 1984 as a swing musician in his early 30s," Orchard said.

"He will be back in Brecon this summer with award-winning British jazz saxophonist Alan Barnes.

"Mike Harries is now in his 80s, but his Cardiff-based good time band the Root Doctors will once again return to excite a Brecon audience."

A new generation of Loose Tubes, which played the festival in 1985, is also returning as part of its own 30th anniversary event.

The full Brecon Jazz 2014 programme will be announced on 26 February with tickets available from 28 February.
