A High Court judge has backed a health board's decision to close inpatient beds at Cardigan Hospital.

In December 2013 Hywel Dda Health Board announced the community hospital would only treat outpatients from March 2014.

Opposition groups, including the Hospital League of Friends, claim they were not properly consulted.

Mr Justice Hickinbottom has upheld the decision as fair and lawful, noting there was no statutory requirement to consult.

Opponents of the health board's decision submitted a 11,042-name petition to the Welsh assembly in January.
