Crickhowell supermarket plan 'on hold' after protests

Windows were boarded up by shopkeepers in Crickhowell during a day of protests last month

A group opposed to plans to turn a pub in their town into a convenience store run by a national supermarket chain say the idea has been put on hold.

More than 3,500 people signed a petition and 2,560 letters of objection have been written about the The Corn Exchange pub in Crickhowell, Powys.

The Corn Exchange Action Group, which has protested, welcomed the decision.

It said the building's owner, Punch Taverns, will look to sell it or split it into units for local businesses.

But the application for the supermarket has not been withdrawn.

Punch has been asked to comment.
