Brecon Beacons National Park Authority's board could be reduced in size from 24 members to 18 in a bid to save £40,000 a year.

The Welsh Government is consulting on the proposal which would bring it in line with Snowdonia and Pembrokeshire Coast national park authorities.

The consultation, external document says the authority is confident it could "maintain good governance with a reduced sized board".

Views are sought before 7 June.

Board members represent the interests of the population of the park, not just the authority.

They are paid £3,600 based on 42 days' works.

The consultation document says a smaller board would also "start a process of increased focus and efficiency on park authority business".

The authority is currently restructuring the way it delivers its services and it says "a leaner decision-making structure would make more effective use of member and officer time, as well as making further savings in member travel and subsistence".
