Expansion at Wrexham dairy will create up to 80 jobs

Up to 80 jobs are to be created under plans to expand a dairy in Wrexham.

Family business Tomlinson's Dairies in Minera is to create a new dairy processing facility, making it the largest liquid dairy in Wales.

The new 70,000ft factory will give the dairy the capacity to produce 100m litres of milk every year.

Tomlinson's currently produces around 25m litres each year but has outgrown its current factory due to increasing demand for its milk.

The new dairy, which will create between 70 and 80 jobs, is due to be commissioned next summer.

The business was established in 1983 by brothers Philip and John Tomlinson and currently processes milk from around 30 local farms.

Philip Tomlinson said: "We are excited by the current development, which will see us doubling processing capacity as soon as the new factory is commissioned, with the long-term potential to grow to 100m litres per annum."

He said the new facility would allow them to continue sourcing local Welsh milk and processing it and packing it locally.

"We are committed to supporting the local economy and farming community and anticipate a number of new jobs will be created as a result of the growth in the business, whilst providing a secure outlet for milk from local farmers for the future," said Mr Tomlinson.

Tomlinson's Dairies started as a doorstep round in the Wrexham area using milk from the family dairy farm at Minera.

It now supplies milk and cream to more than 300 outlets across Wales and the north west of England, with customers including households, wholesalers, retailers and caterers.
