Blue Square Bet Premier bosses in Wrexham FC talks

Wrexham FC players and reserves are playing a match to celebrate the takeover

The owners of Wrexham FC are to meet officials from the Blue Square Bet Premier to discuss the club's position in the run-up to the new season.

It follows confirmation that Glyndwr University which is next to the Racecourse Stadium has bought the ground and training facilities.

The Football Conference has been seeking assurances Wrexham will be able to compete next season.

The deal does not include Wrexham FC or the Crusaders rugby league team.

But fans' group, Wrexham Supporters' Trust (WST), are hoping to takeover running the club.

Wrexham FC's 2011/12 Blue Square Bet Premier campaign is due to get underway at the Racecourse against Cambridge on Saturday, 13 August.

The Football Conference wanted assurances over the football team's ability to complete all its fixtures after two pre-season games were cancelled before the announcement of the university's takeover of the ground and Collier's Park training facilities.

'Opens the door'

Last week, around 115 staff at the club, including players, were not paid and two pre-season friendlies were called off.

The supporters' trust has been interested in a deal to take over the club from the start.

Club owner Geoff Moss said the sale of the ground "opens the door" for WST to take over the running of the football club.

Rugby league side the Crusaders will also still be able to play their games at the Racecourse.

Their final home game against Hull has been moved to 21 August.

The struggling Super League side, also owned by Mr Moss, has not renewed its licence to play in the competition for the next three years.

And the Rugby Football League, which owned a part of the ground, will cut all ties once the sale to Glyndwr University goes through.

All 68 Conference league sides have sent representatives to the pre-season gathering in Telford, Shropshire, to discuss the forthcoming season.

But Wrexham's representatives will also speak to the governing body about the latest developments at the club.

On Thursday, WST said they are continuing to work with the current owners of the football club to reach agreement on its sale.
