Mother and son flee arson attack at Caia Park, Wrexham

The home of a woman and her young son has been targeted in an arson attack in Wrexham.

Police are investigating after firefighters were called to Bala Road, Caia Park, at 23:16 BST on Sunday.

Amanda Neal told the Daily Post that her front path was set alight and she and her son, who has special needs, escaped when the alarm was raised.

She told the newspaper: "These people are idiots and don't realise the consequences of their actions."

The newspaper reports that Ms Neal's son, Dylan Hernandez, aged nine, has autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Ms Neal thanked neighbour Tasha Griffiths for banging on her door to alerting her.

She said the flames had spread up her path and close to the front door.

She told the Post: "I was able to call Dylan and get him outside to safety. He was great, children with autism or ADHD may react differently - they might freeze or be freaked out, but Dylan was very calm.

"I went through the back door and round the back - there was a smell of petrol."

She added: "I can't think why anyone would have done this - I have no enemies and keep to myself.

"These people are idiots and don't realise the consequences of their actions."

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire was started deliberately and police were investigating.
