Jobs go as Barnhill Construction in Wrexham call in administrators

Thirty five workers have been made redundant following the collapse of a Wrexham construction company.

Administrators say they were unable to save Barnhill Construction as it had shut down before they were called in.

The company, based at Five Crosses industrial estate in Minera, specialised in civil engineering and maintenance contracts.

One of its larger projects was the construction of a £3.2 million power plant at UPM paper mill at Deeside.

Matt Dunham from administrators Grant Thornton said the company had been a victim of the downturn in the construction industry.

"The business had ceased trading by the time were appointed and unfortunately all 35 employees had been made redundant," he said.

"Our role over the next few weeks will be to realise the company's assets to help pay off its debts. We're still going through the figures."

The firm, founded in 1991, also had a steel fabrication division.

Clients included Kellogg's, Cadbury and Redrow Homes.
