The first minister has hailed a car plant as "a Welsh success story" of which the nation could be proud.

Carwyn Jones was visiting the Toyota engine factory on Deeside to mark its 20th anniversary.

The plant employs more than 500 people and became the first factory outside Japan to build Toyota's hybrid engine.

Mr Jones said it was "proof that Wales is a viable and successful base for high-end manufacturers who can compete at a global level".

"For 20 years the company has been producing top class products, made here in Wales and exported around the world," he said.

The first minister pledged his government's continued support of advanced manufacturing, as a "key part" of the Welsh economy.

Plant director Richard Kenworthy said: "This is an important milestone for Toyota UK's Engine plant.

"It confirms Toyota's long term commitment to the economy and providing employment in advanced manufacturing in Wales."
